How your photo and your information are handled when you use Adornu. Last updated 22 October 2026.
In short: your photo is used only to make your try-on picture, and is never stored on our servers. The finished picture is deleted from our servers as soon as it reaches your screen. We don't use your photo to recognise you, and it is not used to train AI models.
Who we are
Adornu (adornu.io) makes the virtual try-on that Shopify stores add to their product pages. When you use it in a store, that store decides why and how your information is used; Adornu handles it on the store's behalf, as described here. Questions about your data can go to the store or to us at hello@adornu.io.
When you try something on in a store
- What is sent: the photo you choose (resized, with location and camera data removed in your browser before it leaves your device), the product's photo, and the product's type and name.
- What happens to it: first, a small image model (OpenAI) checks that the photo shows a person, so a photo of something else is not used or counted — it answers only yes or no. Then our servers prepare your photo (they mark which parts are clothing, skin, face, hair and background, so only the clothing is changed) and send it to an image model to draw the product on you — either on servers we run, or through the API of OpenAI (directly or via Microsoft Azure OpenAI) or FASHN. We do not use face recognition and do not create biometric identifiers or templates.
- How long it is kept: your photo is held in memory only while your picture is made, then discarded — it is never written to disk or to a database. The finished picture is kept until your browser collects it, and at most about 10 minutes, then deleted.
- What the AI providers keep: the promise above is about Adornu's own servers; the AI service that draws the picture keeps less than a day, except OpenAI. OpenAI (and Azure OpenAI) may keep API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, then deletes them, and under its API terms does not use them to train models. FASHN receives the images inline (never by a link): its working copy of your photo is deleted when the picture is finished (with an automatic clean-up within a day), the finished picture is held for at most 60 minutes for us to collect, and it keeps only a record of the request without any image. FASHN does not use them to train models. Neither provider is told who you are.
- What we keep: a record that a try-on happened — the store, product type, time, how long it took and whether it worked — without any image.
Analytics on this website
adornu.io uses Mixpanel to understand how the site is used: the pages viewed, where visitors came from, what they click and how far they scroll, and the steps taken in the demo. By default this is anonymous: nothing is stored on your device, and each page load counts as a new visitor. If you allow it (the banner at the bottom of the page), Mixpanel also keeps an identifier in your browser — not your name — so your visits are recognised as yours, and records sessions to show how the site is used. Photos, try-on pictures and anything you type into a form are never recorded; we record that a photo was added, never the photo. If you choose “No thanks”, nothing is measured at all. You can change your choice here at any time.
Your choice on this device: not made yet.
On your device
If you choose to, your photo and your try-on pictures are saved in your browser's storage on your device, so you don't have to upload again. They leave your device only to make a new look. A discount code you receive is kept there too, so you can find it again. "Forget my photo" in the fitting room, or clearing your browser's site data, removes them.
To count free and daily try-ons, your browser keeps a random identifier. We store only a scrambled (salted hash) version of it, per store; it can't be traced back to you. So that clearing the browser does not reset those counts, we also count try-ons per network: we keep a salted hash of your internet connection's address (never the address itself), per store, for 2 days, then delete it.
If you give your email in a store
- Some stores ask for an email address after a few free try-ons. Your email goes to that store's Shopify account as a customer contact, and you receive marketing from it only if you tick the box to agree. If the store offers a discount, the code is created in its Shopify store. We don't keep your email.
On this website
- The try-on demo on this website: a photo you add stays in your browser until you press “See it on you”. Then it is sent to make your try-on — processed in memory by Adornu and its AI provider, exactly as described above for stores — and not stored. To give every visitor a fair share (five AI try-ons per visit), we keep a salted hash of your network address and a count of try-ons for 7 days, never the address itself.
- When you send the enquiry form, your name, email, store, category and message are emailed to our inbox so we can reply. We keep that email as correspondence and use it for nothing else.
- This website uses no advertising or analytics cookies.
Using the try-on
- Only upload photos of yourself, or of someone who has agreed to it.
- The try-on is not meant for children under 16.
- Try-on pictures are made by AI. They are a preview: fit, size, colour and fabric can look different from the real product.
For stores using Adornu
To run the app we keep your store's domain, the access token Shopify gives us, your app settings, counts of try-ons, add-to-carts and shares, and the support messages and feedback you send us from the app. With the customer permissions you grant, the app adds customers who give their email (with their marketing choice) and creates discount codes in your store. When you uninstall, the access token is deleted at once; 48 hours later, when Shopify asks us to, everything else we hold about your store is deleted. Please mention the try-on, and link to this notice, in your store's own privacy policy.
Who helps us
- Our hosting providers, which run our servers.
- OpenAI, L.L.C., Microsoft (Azure OpenAI) and FASHN AI, any of which may draw the try-on picture.
- Our email delivery service, for messages to stores and replies to enquiries.
Some of these process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their data-protection terms. Everything sent between your browser, our servers and these services is encrypted in transit.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, to correct or delete it, or to object to how it is used. Because we keep no photos and no personal details of shoppers, there is usually nothing on our side to hand over or delete; for your email and orders, contact the store. You can always write to us at hello@adornu.io, and you can complain to your local data-protection authority.
Security
How we protect data — encryption in transit and at rest, limited and logged staff access, encrypted backups — and how we respond to incidents is described on our security page. For stores, our data processing agreement sets out how we process data on their behalf.
Changes
